Day 03 - Sacred Valley (B/L/-)

We will start our visit to the salt fields of Maras. We can appreciate the seemingly never-ending terraces where salt that is extracted from springs is stored. These waters have been used for centuries and long before the time of the Incas. The variety of colors created by the reflection of the sun in the field is impressive. We will also learn a lot about the Incas unique ability to generate their resources. We will then head to Moray and discover the four major geological depressions that originated the circular terraces built by the Incas. These terraces were used as botanical laboratories to develop and improve crops. After lunch, we will end the day with a visit to the Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo. This Fortress was built to protect the entrance of this part the Valley and prevent the possible invasions of tribes from the jungle lowlands. Ollantaytambo was later the scene of Incan resistance in 1537, when Manco Inca’s forces faced Hernando Pizarro’s troops.

In the middle of the visit, enjoy of a special lunch with Paso horse. Overnight at Sacred Valley.

Day 04 – Sacred Valley / Machu Picchu (B/L/D)

FD tour to Machu Picchu via one way Vistadome train

Morning transfer to the train station for an amazing train journey to the famous Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu, the great mountain-top city abandoned by the Inca Empire, reclaimed by the jungle and lost to humanity until its rediscovery in 1911.  The legendary ‘Lost City’ is without a doubt one of the world’s most impressive archaeological sites. Built by the Incas on the summit of “Machu Picchu” (old peak), overlooking the deep canyon of the Urubamba river in a semi-tropical area 75 miles (120 Km) from the city of Cusco at 11,155 f.a.s.l (3,400 m.a.s.l).

It sits on a mountain site of extraordinary beauty, in the middle of a tropical mountain forest; Machu Picchu was probably the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire at its height, with its giant walls, terraces and ramps, which appear as though they have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments.

Machu Picchu is also one of the Inca’s best kept secrets, since they did not leave written records and Spanish chronicles make no mention of the citadel, it remains a mystery.

Along the way you will enjoy the changing landscape as you travel from Andean highlands to the beginnings of the jungle (“eyebrow of the jungle”), before finally arriving at the town of Aguas Calientes. From here we will board the bus that will take you on a 20 minute ride up to the citadel of Machu Picchu, or Lost City of the Incas, which sits upon the summit bearing the same name, and is one of the most representative and recognized examples of Incan architecture. A guided tour of the Citadel includes the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and various burial grounds.  Buffet lunch at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge is included.

Dinner at the hotel

Overnight in Aguas Calientes

Day 05 – Machu Picchu / Cusco (B/L/-)

Morning at leisure (Entrance to Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu included)

Today visit the Citadel of Machu Picchu for a second time.  For active or more adventurous people, we suggest to climb up the Huayna Picchu (Depending on weather conditions) from where you can appreciate the immensity of Machu Picchu, even more amazing being so high and distant.

Lunch at your hotel in Aguas Calientes.

In the afternoon, return to by Vistadome train. Upon arrival at the train station you will be met by our representative and private driver for your transfer to the hotel.
