Travel through some of the most impressive Andean scenery in Ecuador. Your biking trek begins in the beautiful Cotopaxi National Park. The next few days takes you south through Andean valleys to the stunning Tungurahua active volcano.
Itinerary
Day 1 Cotopaxi National Park: Depart from Quito to the Cotopaxi National Park up through Pedregal, at the northern entrance. Explore the park from north to south crossing highland plateaus and observing the unique vegetation and fauna of the moorlands. Start cycling on sandy, volcanic trails until reaching the lower section. Visit Limpiopungo Lake at the foothills of the Rumiñahui Volcano. The transportation team will provide support throughout the day. Exit the park through the valley that leads to Lasso. This evening will be spent in a cozy Hacienda.
DAY 2 La Cienega - Salcedo: After breakfast, ride through the beautiful Cotopaxi valleys at an altitude of 9,184 feet (2,800 meters). Most of this terrain is flat as you bike through farmlands, historic Colonial Haciendas, Indian villages and markets that make this a cultural and colorful day. Transfer to the Manteles Hacienda for dinner and overnight.
DAY 3 Tungurahua Volcano and Patate valley: Today, enjoy the roads and trails surrounding Hacienda Manteles located east of the high Andes, with an excellent view of the Tungurahua Volcano and its surroundings. Descend from 8,692 (2,650 meters) into the valley of Patate at 7,216 feet (2,200 meters) surrounded by Cloud Forest. Passing by fruit plantations and colorful flowers make this a memorable trip. Transfer back to Quito in the afternoon.
