Young Pirates Program
We are pleased to introduce “Young Pirates” program for young Galapagos Explorers. This program is aimed at children ranging between ages 7 to 12 years old. It showcases a fun and exciting way of absorbing Galapagos kids’ style.
Activities are planned to partially ease the responsibility of parents or guardians during the expedition trips aboard the vessels: MV SANTA CRUZ, Yacht ISABELA II and Yacht LA PINTA or land & sea programs with the Finch Bay Eco Hotel. Adults will appreciate the ‘adult time’ allowed during conferences and dinnertime, while young guests participate in supervised planned activities.
Children will enjoy specially designed menus and earlier dinner hours. Paper placemats will include labyrinths, cross word puzzles, find the differences, dot-to-dot, find the shadow and scrambled letters to keep the young ones busy while food is served. Our creative chefs and kitchen staff have created a “kids’ continental breakfast” with Galápagos muffins, fruit yogurt, orange juice and chocolate milk, and for dinners a choice of meals children all over the world enjoy, such as hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets and fish and chips. To keep the young ones eating their veggies, vegetarian options are always available.
It is our hope that everybody enjoys this natural paradise and appreciates the efforts for its conservation. Thus, we thought kids need some type of interpretative recreational material, and we developed our own Galápagos booklet: “Young Pirates”. In this learning while having fun book we find many different subjects, including:
Galapagos Means Tortoises
Galapagos Bedtime Stories
Dawn to Dusk in the Galapagos: Flightless Birds, Swimming Lizards, and Other Fascinating Creatures
Life on Earth: The Story of Evolution
We're Sailing to Galapagos: a Week in the Pacific
Endangered Animals and Habitats – The Galapagos Islands
Darwin and Evolution for Kids: His Life and Ideas with 21 Activities
We believe that this destination can give young explorers an educational approach, and this will be present in activities such as colouring (Multicoloured Ecuador and Galapagos: Discover it and Paint it), Ecuamemory cards, maps (Where am I?), animal puzzles, Galapagos videos and movies for children, treasure hunts, Galapagos trivia, reading time, stargazing and conversations (What have I learned?).
Handicraft activities will include bracelet weaving, molding with play-dough and bead necklace making. Children will also be encouraged to fill out the Journal of Expedition they will be given on the first day on board, with their Galapagos experiences.
‘Special Moments’ and children’s activities will be planned mostly before and after lunch and dinner, during the time adults are dining or attending briefings and conferences. Our expedition style will allow all ages to absorb Galápagos at different paces. Learning will never be this fun!
