Itinerary Description
DAY 01: BOGOTA
Arrival to El Dorado International Airport, meeting with your guide and transfer to the selected hotel.
DAY 02: CITY TOUR - ZIPAQUIRÁ + LUNCH
Breakfast and transfer to the colonial section of La Candelaria, short stops for photographs at Plaza de Bolivar, the main square of Bogota. Here you will see the Cathedral, the Congress Palace, the Cardinal's Palace, the colonial church of El Sagrario, the House of Independence, the Palace of Justice and the City Hall. Visit to the famous Gold Museum, which houses the world greatest collection of pre-hispanic indian gold crafts. Afterwards visit the FERNANDO BOTERO Museum which contains paintings and sculptures of this famous contemporary Colombian artist.
NOTE: The Gold Museum is closed on Mondays and the Botero Museum is closed on Tuesdays.
Afterwards, you will drive through the northern residential area of the city, and the fertile plateau to the town of Cajicá, where a short stop will be made at the main square. Lunch included. Continuation to the town of Zipaquirá famous for its salt mine, where the underground salt cathedral will be visited. Return to Bogota.
DAY 03: CEREMONIAL LAKE OF GUATAVITA
Breakfast at the hotel and departure leaving the plateau where Bogota is located and passing the towns of Tocancipa and Gachancipa, we will detour from the Panamerican highway toward the legendary Sacred Lake of Guatavita, where the Muisca Indians used to celebrate the most important ritual of their religion. In that ceremony the main chief of the tribe covered with gold dust was taken to the center of the lake on a wood raft and there, by taking a bath, left the gold as an offering to their gods. One and a half hours walk around the lagoon which gave born to the famous legend of "El Dorado". After sufficient time for pictures, continuation of the tour to the town of Guatavita, built completely in 1967 and located at the shore of the reservoir of Tomine. The buildings and houses are a combination of colonial and modern architectural styles. After comprehensive visit return to Bogota; on the way, lunch is included.

DAY 04: BOGOTÁ - NEIVA - SAN AGUSTÍN
Breakfast and transfer to the airport to take a flight to Neiva. From Neiva drive for about 5 hours, along the Magdalena Valley and on to the town of San Agustin. Some stops will be made to observe tobacco, grape, rice and cacao plantations .The mountain landscape, valleys and canyons like the Pericongo are marvellous as the trip goes from 400 meters above sea level to 1.700 where San Agustin is located. Arrival and transfer to the selected hotel, overnight.
DAY 05: ARCHAEOLOGY
American breakfast included. Morning visits to the Archaeological Park, with Mesitas A. B and C, the Lavapatas Fountain, the Statues Forest and the Archaeological Museum. Afternoon transfer by bus to the "Alto de los Idolos", site of special interest for researchers and visitors. Return to the hotel. Overnight.
DAY 06: NATURE AND ADVENTURE
Breakfast. During this day passengers can choose one of three programs to do during the morning:
- v Walk to the straight of the Magdalena River
- v Horseback riding to different archaeological points.
- v Rafting along the Magdalena River.
Free afternoon.
DAY 07: SAN AGUSTIN - NEIVA - BOGOTÁ
Breakfast. During the morning departure by road for the return to Neiva, transfer to the airport to take a flight to Bogotá and connection to your next destination.
NOTE: For the tour in San Agustín, local English speaking guides will be used. If other languages needed please ask for a quotation. In San Agustin, the HOTEL ANACAONA 3* will be used. It is a beautiful colonial house with 6 bedrooms, ample corridors and colourful gardens. In case of bigger groups, HOTEL YALCONIA 3* will be used. This is a cozy hotel, with 36 comfortable rooms and welcoming country-style facilities
