Ecuador had for one more year a successful participation at the thirty fourth edition of Travel Mart Latin America, held this year in Lima, Peru from September 22 to the 24th. Travel Mart is the most important business encounter of the travel industry, especially dedicated to Latin America and takes place on different cities of the continent. Ecuador had a numerous delegation presided by the Minister of Tourism and officials from the Ministry, as well as private suppliers of tourism and travel services of the different segments such as tour operators, hotels, airlines, restaurants and other related activities.
The Ecuadorian stand was visited by many of the international buyers who congregated for the prestigious Latin American business conclave. This was a privileged opportunity to present to the world travel industry the new products and destinations which are being developed, most of them aimed at creating innovative programs, closely tied with the concepts of responsible tourism, where social, cultural and environmental elements are centerpiece of the new developments. Ecuador is seeking to continue to be recognized as a pioneer and one of the leading countries in Latin America, and worldwide, as a practical role model, setting an example of how tourism activities can successfully become best allies with preservation of nature and the environment; respect and promotion of the rich ancestral and more recent cultural values and a powerful generator of income and employment, which directly contributes to the reduction of poverty.
This edition of the Travel Mart Latin America congregated 280 travel companies as buyers, mainly from United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia, as well as hundreds of exhibitors from all the Latin American countries, presenting their respective tourism attractions and new offers. The event is regarded as one with the highest ratio of return business for the suppliers, since its format of pre-scheduled appointments, produces a high number of effective transactions and projects long-term sales and partnerships between buyers and sellers.
Patricio Tamariz, the Undersecretary of Tourism Promotion of Ecuador, met with more than thirty travel companies interested in Ecuador, some of which move over one million tourists per year at world level. The idea is to promote Ecuador by means of a permanent campaign which includes workshops and destination seminars, as well as numerous familiarization trips to bring in first hand information and knowledge about Ecuador’s rich and phenomenally varied natural and cultural attractions. The Minister of Tourism of Ecuador, Freddy Ehlers made the official presentation of Ecuador explaining about the advantages of visiting the country’s four worlds, at the Middle of the World, framed by the Andes and their outstanding Avenue of Volcanoes; the lovely Pacific coast; the exotic an remarkably bio diverse Amazon Rainforest and the unique Galapagos Islands. Together with the Ambassador of Ecuador in Lima, the Minister of Tourism hosted a gastronomic festival which fascinated the delegates for the variety and delicious taste of the typical Ecuadorian cuisine.
Several of the attending private Exhibitors from Ecuador also featured special events, hosted creative and sensational theme parties and get-togethers, which reflected, in addition to the touring products offered, the lively hospitality of the Ecuadorians. Thus, once more, Ecuador had an outstanding, successful and much praised participation at this important travel gathering.
