Ecuador has just earned one more award in the World of tourism. An international contest conducted by respected travel organizations, just designated Diego Torres, an Ecuadorian from the capital city of Quito, as the “Best Tourist Guide in the World 2009”, in the category “Respect for the Local People”
Diego was born in Quito and has more than ten years of experience in the profession which is his passion and conducts every day with the same enthusiasm and illusion as the first time. Some of the main characteristics which contributed to his designation are his natural leadership; charisma, good management of interpersonal relations and problem-solving capacity.
He obtained his degree at the Technological University of the Equinox, in Quito and has a Masters degree in Ecotourism and Protected Natural Areas Management. He speaks fluent English and studies other languages.
Diego was chosen among 160 professional guides from around the world. His award recognizes high standards of practical and genuine respect for the local people and cultures; respect and preservation of the natural environments and, of course, a cordial, professional and warm way of treating his guests and fellow people.
In acknowledging the distinction awarded to him, Diego considers that guiding implies transmitting to all those who interact with him a message of how responsible tourism contributes positively to the preservation of nature and culture, within a philosophy of solidarity and respect for the people, a key element in this activity.
Ecuador’s tourism and travel industry has one more reason to be proud of: in addition to its immense diversity of natural and cultural features and attractions, many of them unique and world class top highlights, it also has, after three consecutive years of nominations as finalist, the World’s Best Guide: Diego Torres. Congratulations to him and to all his fellows in the profession who thrive every day to contribute to position Ecuador as one of the best travel destinations in the world, enhanced by the human and professional quality of those who show the tourists around, with true love for their profession and their country.
